History

The Mogilev Automobile Plant in the Belarusian SSR specialised in heavy quarry and construction machinery. The works were rebuilt after the war and began production in 1944.

Its main speciality was the scraper — a self-propelled earth-moving machine for shifting large volumes of soil. In the 1960s and 1970s the plant added very large quarry dump trucks, which became indispensable for building hydroelectric stations and industrial sites and for open-pit mining.

MoAZ machines worked on the biggest Soviet construction projects: the Sayano-Shushenskaya and other hydroelectric dams, the coal pits of Siberia and the Baikal–Amur Mainline. Its special quarry equipment was exported to Asia, Africa and Latin America. Today the plant is part of a Belarusian industrial group and continues to build specialised construction machinery.
