GAZ-24 Volga

History
The standard car of mid-ranking officials, taxi fleets, the KGB and the police. The GAZ-24 was the most numerous Volga ever built and the true workhorse of the Soviet state machine.
The GAZ-24 replaced the GAZ-21 in 1970 and embodied the era of “developed socialism”: restrained styling with little chrome, a roomy cabin and a large boot. Its main customers were state organisations — ministries, regional party committees, the police, the KGB, taxi fleets and ambulance services. Private buyers rarely got one; cars mostly went to veterans, Heroes of Labour and cultural figures through special lists. The GAZ-24-24, fitted with the Chaika's V8, was built for the KGB and used to escort government motorcades.
